What is Thai Yoga
Massage?
As a
practitioner of Thai yoga massage I work with rhythmic
pressing and stretching movements. My aim is to make
contact with the main energy ‘sen’ lines, to free and
balance the client’s energy flow. The work is given through
light and comfortable clothing and takes place on a futon
on the floor.
Benefits
Depending on the
client’s wish, the massage can be both re-vitalising and
deeply relaxing. During the yoga massage, muscular knots
and tensions release, encouraging greater joint mobility
and flexibility. Due to the rhythmic nature of the massage,
lymph flow and other cellular fluids get stimulated to
assist the body to detoxify and re-oxygenate.
My
Approach
My approach to the
massage combines the traditional Thai massage moves with my
knowledge of neuro-muscular and myofascial anatomy. Unlike
the sometimes painful massage that travelers have
experienced in Thailand, I work within the boundaries of
each client and the massage unfolds as a flowing sequence
involving deep muscle work, joint mobilisation and applied
yoga postures. My work is also enhanced and informed by my
own yoga practice.
In the Thai yoga massage tradition, great emphasis is put
on incorporating the four divine states of mind described
in Buddhist teachings to the massage: loving kindness,
compassion, joy and equanimity. I personally would add the
quality of discovery.
With each client I begin a new, fresh approach in making
contact with the body and responding to what is needed from
a listening place.
Those who have experienced the massage describe feelings of
calm and aliveness, a sense of being invigorated, muscles
elongated and being able to breathe more deeply.
